It was world food night and everyone brought something to share! No wonder the rich variety of dinner dishes. I made two dishes, claypot chicken rice and chicken kebabs, the others made fried noodles, eggs in soy sauce, fried rice, sri lankan fried dhall, lamb curry and briyani, salad, shepards pie, king prawns, japanese aubergines, fried eggs and vegetables, etc. It was MIH's world food night in conjunction with a farewell dinner for some housemates leaving end of September.
I learnt today that being a tutor isn't easy. We have to be fair, mature and to think for the good of all present. The middle man. It happened when the wardens decided to join the little do with their friends who were not known to the rest of the housemates. So there was a tension and one of us was not particularly happy, she almost shed tears and told me she did not know them and it was her party. I failed to see the problem initially as I considered it an open table affair, as long as one had something to share it did not matter who came to table. But evidently it wasn't the case and some last minute introductions were made and we eventually did not share a table for dinner. Fine. Peace was maintained but I guess, the coming year would see more of this sort of problem if one did not mention prior to the event who is actually coming to share in the dinner. I reminded myself that it does not mean if I did not see a problem in it then others too would be the same, it was different. When there are a mix of cultures and people from all over the world sitting in a dining room there would bound to be some kind of misunderstanding. I am almost beside myself and am not sure if I should take the tutor's position at all now.
At least, alhamdulillah I manage to finish my article for Isoc's megazine and emailed it to Khatija and alhamdulillah I managed to say all my prayers including the sunnah and nafl ones at the correct time. Inshallah I hope to continue this and make it a habit eventually even after Ramadan.
