We have reached the middle of the blessed month. For sohor we had this sweet called kheer which I couldn’t finish because it was too sweet and I had had a large banana before having it followed by half cup chai.
We missed 1 sohor so far this Ramadan and I had been excused for 6 days of fasting which must be replaced afterwards before next Ramadan.
The movement control order has been relaxed after more than 40 days of lockdown. We realised more than ever now that health, personal or public, is a great deal capable in changing what is known as normal. The Covid19 after 100 years since the Spanish flu in 1918 broke the public health record in highly contagious infectious diseases pandemic. Creating now what is known as the new normal.
There are blessings in disguise for this Ramadan, a Ramadan like no other the world has seen. The mosques are closed, the Ramadan bazaars are non existent, the post office hours rush back for iftaar traffic is gone, children stay quietly at home getting fed home cooked food, the basics of the family function and structure reenforced, terawih at home with the head of family as imam, kids partake in solat & their health takes a turn for the best due to the isolation from other kids’ cough and colds.
No matter in what light you choose to see this Ramadan, there are multifold blessings in it. The missing the congregational prays and iftaar is deeply missed. The mass charity drives and activities for orphans are not done on large scale. Yes, the role of the mosque has gone basic to the resounding azan. May we see silver linings in all difficult times. Ramadan Kareem.
