Hukum-Hakam Puasa | The Laws for Fasting

Day 9 Ramadan

The Prerequisites of Fasting

1.0 Syarat wajib Puasa (Sebab/ Reason)
1.1 Mesti Islam - will be overwritten if the person apostate (murtad) - duration for reconciliation within 3 days, and need to replace the fasts (Mazhab Shafiee) but not compulsory to replace according to Mazhab Hanafi.
1.2 Mesti Baligh - however should train children to fast esp. those of 7-10 years old. Is the fast of these children accepted? Majority mazhab agrees yes but mazhab Hanafi disagrees for fasting for children because they think fasting is to break shawat/ desire.
1.3 Berakal - unconscious, crazy, mentally ill. Not compulsory for mentally ill person.
1.4 Bersih daripada haid and nifas - need to replace fasts but need not replace solat.
1.5 Mampu untuk berpuasa - ill persons due to health issues or medication need not replace fasting but need to repay in cash/kind (fidyah) by daily basis (the night before) as much as 750g rice a day.
1.6 Dalam keadaan beriqamah/bermusafir - need to replace. Allowed only for Musafir taat (jauh >85km) bukan untuk musafir maksiat.

Kewajipan solat lebih besar daripada puasa | The responsibility of solat is more than for fasting

2.0 Rukan Puasa
2.1 Niat - done sincerely, no need to be said per say. Acceptable in your mind/ heart. Lafaz bukan syarat. It is the thought that counts. Rancangan/niat untuk membatalkan puasa tidak akan membatalkan puasa.
2.2 Tahan diri/ self constrain - however the following will break a person's fast:
2.2.1 Makan & minum - kalau lupa dimaafkan
2.2.2 Hubungan suami isteri - conjugal relations
      2.2.3 Muntah sengaja
      2.2.4 Murtad

3.0 Things/ actions which will not break fast
3.1 Using inhaler for asthma patients
3.2 Gargling with water
3.3 Use of insulin
3.4 Use of sub from the anus

4.0 Syarat wajib Solat

4.3 Berakal
4.4 Masuk waktu

5.0 Sunnah practices during Ramadan
5.1 To take sahur/ the morning meal before imsak/fajr - to have enough energy for the day
5.2 To delay the sahur
5.3 Not to delay the iftaar/ break of fast - to differentiate between the Muslims and the Jews (Jews break fast once they see the stars)
5.4 Break fast with dates and water - full of energy and soft in nature, gentle for the stomach
5.5 Increase prayers - especially at the end of fast. Type of doa which will not be neglected: prayer of the just leaders, prayer of the fasting person and prayer of the tortured person.
5.6 Increase recitation/ reading of the Quran - 1 juzk per day, about 2 page sheets a day.
5.7 Charity and donation
5.8 To increase ibadah during lailatul Qadr - last 10 days of Ramadan
